Queensland pool statistics

How many pools Queensland has, which suburbs have the most, where shared pools cluster, and how many inspectors there are per pool in each council.

Queensland had 451,973 registered pools at 448,470 properties on QBCC's pool safety register in August 2024. They were served by 467 licensed pool safety inspectors with Queensland business addresses, about one inspector for every 968 pools.

Key findings

  • Buderim has more registered pools than any other Queensland suburb: 4,938.
  • The Gold Coast holds 6 of the 10 suburbs with the most pools.
  • Logan has about 2,074 pools for each locally based inspector, roughly double the state average.
  • Surfers Paradise has the most properties with a shared pool: 579. Shared pool certificates must be renewed every year.
  • Certificates are issued most often in regional areas. In Livingstone, 6.9% of pools got a new certificate in a year, against about 2% in Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

Shared pool hotspots

Shared pools are in unit blocks, complexes and holiday apartments. The body corporate usually holds the certificate, which lasts one year instead of two. How shared pool rules work.

Pools and inspectors by council

Inspectors are counted where their business is based, and many travel across council boundaries, so treat pools per inspector as a guide to local supply rather than an exact workload.

Home sales, new leases and inspectors by council

A pool safety certificate is generally only needed when a home with a pool is sold or leased, so sales and new leases are the main trigger for new certificates. Most homes sold or leased have no pool, so these are the number of transactions in each council, not the number of certificates owed. Inspectors are counted where their business is based, and many travel across council boundaries.

House sales (Jun 2025 to Mar 2026): Queensland Government Statistician's Office. New house leases (Sep 2025 to Jun 2026): Residential Tenancies Authority bond lodgements. Inspectors: QBCC pool safety inspector register, August 2024. The sales and lease figures are more recent than the QBCC register extract and will be refreshed when a current extract is available. Councils shown are those with a published PoolPreCert directory page.

How these figures were worked out

  • Pools and properties: QBCC pool safety register, August 2024. A property can have more than one pool.
  • Certificates: certificates recorded on QBCC's register with an issue date in the 12 months to July 2024. The register keeps the latest certificate for each property, so totals are likely to understate the number issued. Use them to compare areas, not as an exact count.
  • Inspectors: QBCC pool safety inspector register, August 2024, counted by business address. Inspectors with interstate addresses are excluded.
  • Councils with at least 1,000 registered pools are shown.
