AI photo check: what it does and what it doesn't

For: Pool owners, Pool safety inspectors · Last updated 16 October 2026

On a photo in a check or inspection you can press the AI photo check. It looks for visible hazards and suggests things to look at in person.

Who it is for: Pool owners using the self-check, and inspectors using the inspection checklist. Each plan includes a number of AI photo checks each month.

How to do it

  1. Open a check or inspection and add a photo to a question, or open a photo you already added.
  2. Take photos in good light, from a step back, so the fence, gate or latch is in the picture. Leave out people, children, number plates, documents and security codes.
  3. Press the AI photo check on the photo. A notice reminds you what is sent before it runs.
  4. Read each suggestion. For every one you can keep it, change it or dismiss it.
  5. If the photo is blurry or too dark, retake it as the message suggests.

What is sent

The photo you choose is sent to our AI provider to produce the suggestions. You see a notice each time you press the button.

Photo formats

HEIC photos cannot be checked. On an iPhone set the camera to Most compatible, or upload a JPEG.

What it does not do

  • It never decides anything. Its findings are prompts to look in person, not results.
  • It is not an inspection and does not say whether a pool meets the standard. Only a licensed inspector decides.
  • It does not run on photos still waiting to upload while you are offline, or in demo workspaces.

Common questions

Why did it miss something?

It only sees what is in the photo and it can be wrong. Treat it as a second pair of eyes, never as the last word.

Is there a limit?

Yes, each plan has a number of AI photo checks a month. The usage meter in the app shows how many are left.

PoolPreCert helps you do and record your work. It does not decide whether a pool meets the Queensland standard. Only a licensed pool safety inspector does that.
