How the PoolPreCert directory works

Where listings come from (QBCC registers, CC BY 4.0), how often licences are checked, how inspectors are ordered, how to correct or hide a listing.

Inspectors in the PoolPreCert directory come from QBCC's pool safety register file of August 2024. Pool fence contractors and pool builders come from QBCC's licensed contractors register, which we check against every day. Listings are ordered by distance, verified reviews and how complete the listing is, and paying never changes the order. A listing is not a recommendation.Source: QBCC registers on the Queensland open data portal, licensed CC BY 4.0 (read 31 Oct 2026).

Where the listings come from

  • Pool safety inspectors: QBCC's pool safety inspector register, as at August 2024 (the file QBCC last published, on 2 Sep 2024). It gives the licence number, the inspector's name and area. Phone numbers and websites come from the inspector, or from their own public page.
  • Pool fence contractors and pool builders: QBCC's licensed contractors register. QBCC refreshes it daily and we copy it each day. Each listing shows the date of the register file it was checked against.
  • Building certifiers: certifiers who registered themselves and asked to be listed. A person at PoolPreCert checks each licence number on QBCC's public search before it shows, and the date of that check is on the listing.

We do not copy business descriptions from other websites. Details such as a website or phone number come from the business itself, or from its own public page, and the listing says which and when we checked. Street addresses and email addresses are not published unless the business chooses to show them.

Which licences are listed

We list holders of QBCC's “Swimming pool construction, installation and maintenance” licence (and the finishes-only pool and spa licence). Check any builder's licence on QBCC's search before you sign a contract.

QBCC doesn't have a licence class just for pool fencing. Its swimming pool licence class includes pool fencing, and fences are also built under its structural landscaping licences. We list licence holders whose QBCC class is fences, or whose business name says they do fencing. Ask any contractor whether they do pool barrier work and how they build to the Queensland pool safety standard.

How often licences are checked

  • Pool fence contractors and pool builders: compared with QBCC's register file every day. QBCC's suspended and cancelled files only cover the current financial year, so a suspension from an earlier year can be missed. A business the file shows as suspended or cancelled is taken off the listings until its status is re-confirmed. Check current status on QBCC before you sign anything.
  • Inspectors: licences renew every year and QBCC's inspector file is from August 2024, so some licences will have lapsed since. A claimed listing shows the date a person last checked it on QBCC's pool safety inspector search (opens in a new tab). Check current status there before you book.

How inspectors are ordered

On a suburb page each inspector gets a score out of 100: distance counts for 45%, verified reviews for 35% and how complete the listing is for 20%. A council area page has no single address, so distance is not used: verified reviews count for 60% and completeness for 40%.

  • Verified reviews come only from homeowners who booked the business through PoolPreCert. A listing with no reviews scores neutral, and a few reviews move it only a little.
  • Complete means the business has confirmed its listing, its licence was checked in the last 90 days, and a phone number or website is added.
  • Pool fence contractors that have confirmed their listing and ticked a pool fence service are shown before the others, because the fences licence class includes firms that build other kinds of fence.
  • Google ratings, where a business has linked its Google listing, come straight from Google Maps and are not part of the score.

Paying PoolPreCert does not change the order. Any sponsored listing is shown separately and labelled. A high place is not a recommendation, and we do not say any inspector or business is the best for your pool.

Correct a listing, claim it or hide it

  • Something is wrong: use the "Report a mistake or ask us to remove it" link on the listing, or contact us. A person reads every report.
  • It is your business: inspectors can claim a listing and contractors and builders can claim theirs. There is no charge to claim. Once claimed, you choose what shows and can hide your listing from your account at any time.
  • You are not listed: ask to be added. We check your licence on QBCC's search before anything is added, and nothing is added automatically.

The data licence

Licence and pool data: Queensland Building and Construction Commission registers (data.qld.gov.au), licensed under CC BY 4.0 (opens in a new tab). Data matched, geocoded and summarised by PoolPreCert. PoolPreCert is not affiliated with QBCC and does not issue pool safety certificates. Read more about who is behind PoolPreCert.

Choosing someone from it

The directory is a starting point. For how to choose an inspector, see how to choose a pool safety inspector. To browse, find an inspector near you.

How this page was made: the PoolPreCert team read each page listed under Sources on 31 October 2026 and wrote this in plain words. The dates beside each source are the dates those pages show. PoolPreCert is not part of QBCC or the Queensland Government, and only a licensed pool safety inspector decides whether a pool meets the standard.

Check your pool, then find an inspector

Look at your own barrier first, so the inspector's visit is as short as it can be. A licensed inspector decides.

No charge to run the self-check.

Common questions

Does PoolPreCert recommend any business in the directory?

No. Order never depends on payment, there are no paid places in the ordinary results, and any sponsored listing would be labelled and shown separately. A listing is not a recommendation.

How often are licences checked?

Pool builders and pool fence contractors are matched against QBCC's licensed contractors register every day, and each listing shows the date of the register file it was last checked against. Inspectors are listed from QBCC's pool safety register file dated August 2024, so check an inspector's current status on QBCC's search before you book.

How do I correct a listing or have it hidden?

Use the "Report a mistake or ask us to remove it" link on a listing, or the contact form, and a person will read it. A business that has claimed its listing can change what shows, or hide it, from its own account.

What if a business is missing from the directory?

Use the missing business form. Contractors and inspectors can also add or claim their own listing, and we check the licence before it is approved.
