Do the check first, then see your results

For: Pool owners · Last updated 5 November 2026

Every Start your pool check button on the PoolPreCert website opens the check. You answer the questions first, with no account. At the end your answers are saved and you create an account (no charge) to see your results.

Who it is for: Pool owners, landlords and anyone selling or leasing a home with a pool.

How to do it

  1. Press Start your pool check on the PoolPreCert website. It opens the check page. You do not need an account for this part.
  2. Choose the type of barrier around your pool, such as glass, aluminium, timber or a boundary fence. The questions depend on the type you choose.
  3. Answer one question at a time. Mark each one Looks OK, Needs attention or Couldn't check. Where a question asks for a measurement, type the number you measured and choose the unit. Your answers stay in your browser while you work, so refreshing the page does not lose them.
  4. At the end press Finish. Your answers are saved and the next page asks you to create an account to see your results. If you already have an account, choose I already have an account.
  5. Create your account with your email and a password, then confirm your email address. There is no charge to create an account or see your results.
  6. Tell us where the pool is: the street address, suburb, postcode, the type of property and pool, how many gates there are and whether the pool is shared. This saves your results to your property.
  7. Your results open. Each item is marked Looks OK, Needs attention or Couldn't check, with plain-English next steps.
  8. To add photos, run the check again from your account. Photos are not taken before you sign up.

What is saved before you sign up

When you press Finish, your answers are saved against a private link, not against your name. They hold your barrier type and your answers. They hold no name, email address or street address. The link works on another device too, including from the confirmation email, and your answers are kept for 30 days.

If the 30 days pass, or the link is incomplete, the page says it could not find your answers and you can start the check again.

If you are already signed in

You skip the sign-up page and go straight to the short form that asks where the pool is. You can also start a check from a property in your account, as described in the article on starting a self-check.

What it does not do

  • It is not an inspection and it does not decide whether a pool meets the Queensland standard. Only a licensed pool safety inspector does that.
  • It does not show any results, counts or score before you sign up.
  • It does not give a certificate and does not lodge anything with the QBCC.

Common questions

Do I need an account to start?

No. You can answer the whole checklist without one. An account is needed only to see your results and keep them with your property.

Does it cost anything?

There is no charge to create an account, run the check or see your results on screen. A detailed PDF report is optional and its price is shown, incl. GST, before you pay.

Why can't I add photos at the start?

Photos are added by running the check again from your account, once your property is saved.

I closed the page. Are my answers gone?

If you finished the check, they are saved for 30 days and the link in your confirmation email brings them back. If you left partway, they stay in the same browser while you work, but only finishing saves them.
